Sea Caves and Arches

If there is anything
better than to be loved,
it is loving.
--- Anonymous

Another postcard from Ethel to the same address,
but not to Winnie. Maybe Winnie's brother?
~~~~~~~~~~
I thought I better get the rest of my beach
photos posted as we are heading back over to
the coast tomorrow! These are the sea caves
and arches off Mendocino, taken in January.
Wouldn't it be fun to have a little boat to explore them?
It will probably be raining, but we
will have a fireplace this time!
More pink chicks
The cure for all the ills
and wrongs, the cares,
the sorrows, and the
crimes of humanity, all
lie in that one word
"love." It is the divine
vitality that everywhere
produces and restores life.
To each and every one of
us, it gives the power of
working miracles if we will.
--- Lydia M. Child (1802-1880)
Looks like this one is from 1913.
Here are those sweet little chicks I mentioned yesterday. Aren't they just the cutest little things you have ever seen? The box measures just 3 1/4" by 2 1/2".
OOPS, my mistake, isn't she just the
cutest little thing you have ever seen? :o)
Leafy greens and pink chicks
All loves should be simply
steppingstones to the love of
God. So it was with me; and
blessed be his name for his
great goodness and mercy.
--- Plato
I am late today in my post because the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds and the temperature was hovering at 60 degrees so I decided to make another cup of coffee (at 1:30) and sit outside and enjoy. The weather report says we are in for more rain this next week, starting tonight which is more good news. I decided to take advantage of this bit of sun and forget that I had my hair to do, run into town for milk and gas, (Mike is coming home tonight) and dozens of other things I had hoped to do today. I even put on a skirt and tank top to fully enjoy the warmth of the sun. The cool breeze came by several times, but when the sun wasn't behind a cloud it was nice and warm! How many of us really enjoy life? I mean really enjoy it, no matter what it brings? Really taking the time to stop and smell the roses as they say and not worry about everything there is "to do" or see or buy? I can't tell you how many times I have beat myself up for not finishing this or that. Maybe there is a reason? Such as I really need to listen to that still small voice inside of me. Have you ever done that? Sit and listen. I have only done that a couple times....truly done that. And it does work yet I still don't do it enough. I mean I have sat still and quiet many times, but my mind is restless and then I try to let it pass, but I get worried and basically give up. I still wonder why it is so easy to do the negative stuff, but harder to do the positive? That is my quest.
As I was making my green drink today, I decided to share a few photos of the lovely greens that our local farmers have provided. God bless all the farmers, especially the organic farmers in our country and I guess, the whole world for that matter! Good stewards of our earth, they are trying to grow clean and healthy produce for all of us to live by. Wonder why there is so much cancer and mutation of our cells? Look no further then the pesticides and chemicals that abound. Please support your local organic farmer, even if their produce is a bit more money. It is for the future of our earth and our children's health. (and remember, I don't even have kids, but I am still concerned about other people's kids, so if you have children of your own you should be even more concerned ! :o) The above is Lacinato Kale. It is so dark green and delicious.
Mache. Darling little bits of green. On the bag, "A salad staple in Europe where it is called Corn Salad and Lamb's Lettuce. This cool season plant has a nutty flavor unlike any other salad green." I think I will use the rest in a salad tonight.
Chicory. I love it's bitterness.
Another beautiful leafy green.
And lastly, this darling little pink chick! I broke down and purchased it yesterday at Michael's. Made in China, but I just couldn't resist. :o) I bought two sizes. This one is 1 3/4 inches tall and came in a box of 6 and then the sweetest little 3/4" ones. 15 of them. I'll share those tomorrow. Doesn't she make you smile?
Flowers make for happy days
Divine love is a scared
flower, which in its early
bud is happiness, and in
its full bloom is heaven.
--- Eleanor Louisa Hervey
This postcard appears to be postmarked 1927, if so, then dear Winnie or Ethel could still be alive! :o)
There is a break in the weather so I plan to do a bit of work outside. I also have many more items to list on my website. If you are in need of bits and pieces of sparkles for your craft projects please check
for a sneak peek of what is to come.
Well off I go to make my green drink! :o)
The power is on
We are shaped and fashioned
by what we love.
--- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I can't read the postmark completely, but it appears to be the early teen's. Isn't "Viletta" a pretty name?
Yesterday I stopped by a local store, Shari's Secret Garden and met Shari and Shirley. Both were very nice and we had a nice chat. The store is located on Main Street across from the town square and has a great selection of scrapbooking supplies and gift items.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our power was suppose to be off today from 8 am to 3 pm to replace a transformer (or something like that), but it didn't go off. I guess with the weather,(although the rain is suppose to let up these next 3 days) they couldn't do it. I got up at 7:15 to start my coffee, boil an egg, boiled 3 large pots of water to have for the day (washing hands and teeth) turned the pellet stove on to 80 and then went back to bed from 8 am until 10 am, figuring why not! When I woke up, I thought I could still hear the pellet stove so I switched on the light and it went on ! SIGH! You see, when the power is off, we have nothing. No electricity(of course), but also, no water (we have a well) and no heat (we have a pellet stove that runs on electricity) so it is always a bit stressful when it does go off (although really it hasn't gone off that much the past 3 1/2 years) Our next place will have a wood burning stove or fireplace which is what we have always had in our other houses. :o)

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Love is an image of God,
and not a lifeless image,
but the living essence of
the divine nature which
beams full of all goodness.
--- Martin Luther
Confessions of a Shopaholic was another sweet and fun movie! Isla Fisher is just adorable and the colors were so vibrant and alive....just like in Mamma Mia. I could see it a second time just to absorb all the sets and colors! :o)

Here is my darling little niece, Jasmine.
She is a sweetie pie!

Rick Rack and Trims

Love gives itself;
it is not bought.
--- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

No date on this postcard, just "With Love, B."

I have listed several packs of vintage trim under the Do It Yourself category of my website: www.rachel-and-pias-cottage.com for you crafters out there. (or just to collect and enjoy their lovely colors) There are more bits of jewelry, buttons, trims, papers, photos and postcards I plan to list over the next couple of weeks, so check back often. :o)

Cheryl and I are going to see Confessions of a Shopaholic this afternoon. :o) The rain is still coming and it is such a joy to see, smell and hear.

More Rain and Movies

It is a beautiful necessity
of our nature to love
something.
--- Douglas Jerrold

We are still getting lovely rain most of the time.(actually, it is pouring right now! :o) Yesterday I had the TV on and "watched" 4 movies throughout the day, TURNER AND HOOCH (still sweet), I DO ( I DON'T) (cute), MUST LOVE DOGS(Good) and THE PERFECT MAN (surprisingly good too). I have 4 old movies I taped from PBS over the past month and may watch one or two today as I am working on projects. Either LAURA-1944, THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN-1954, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN-1952 AND ROYAL WEDDING-1951. I suppose Singin' in the Rain would be appropriate, but since I have seen it before I am leaning towards Three Coins in the Fountain.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Love is patient and kind:
love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice in wrongdoing.
Love bears all things, hopes all
things, endures all things...
so now faith, hope and love
abide, these three; but the
greatest of these is Love.
--- 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Slumdog Millionaire was a very touching story of humanity and love. Yes, please see it.

Just for today, let us send out loving thoughts and express love to the people we meet, even if they irritate us. Can we do that? If so, then can we do it the next day and the next?

SADNESS AND HAPPINESS

They are the true disciples
of Christ, not who know
most, but who love most.
--- Spanheim

Please join me in prayers of comfort for the family and friends of the people killed in the plane crash last night in New York. :o(

Mike, Cheryl and I are going to see Slumdog Millionaire this afternoon. When I was at the movies last week and waiting for Cheryl to arrive, I overheard the manager asking people, as they were exiting, if they liked the movie. He was going on and on that it was his favorite movie and how much he loved it. I thought it was endearing how he loved it so much and was communicating that to everyone. :o)

More VINTAGE PINS

The spiritual meaning
of love is measured by
what it can do.
Love is meant to heal.
Love is meant to renew.
--- Deepak Chopra

No writing on the back of this postcard.

I listed more vintage pins on my website:
including this fun palm tree pin.
Check it out!

The kitty patrol !
That day there were 10 of them
out there sniffing around.

It's raining !!!

We never know the worth
of water till the well is dry.
--- Thomas Fuller, 1732

Yes, it is true, the rain has started! We got a good down pour late yesterday afternoon and into the night. Today it has been on and off. It looks like there will be a bit of a break tomorrow and then for the next week or more, so the report says, rain on and off ......hopefully, more on than off, and more importantly lots of it ! :o)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We took Pansy to the vet this morning to have her drain removed. It looks yucky, but should heal nicely. It doesn't seem to bother her which I can't understand.
Here are the last of the tide pool photos from 2 weeks ago. Aren't they almost enchanting? :o)
And lastly, my almost favorite one. I love the colors and how it turned out pink !
HAVE A PEACEFUL DAY!
